Proud “Nominate a Goodie” Partner
Dick Hohnbaum spent his career years teaching kindergartners and first-graders to read and make new friends. Now at 80, he is managing the Just For Fun Singers, a large group of senior singers who range in ages from 56 to 94.
“I have always loved singing, and I was invited 18 years-ago to come see what the choir was about,” Hohnbaum said. “I have always loved singing, and have been since I was five or six years old.”
Hohnbaum manages the choir, and like kindergarten, it’s about field trips, assignments and community relations.
“ We sing an eclectic mix of songs, and have a wonderful director, Judy Dyer,” Hohnbaum said.
Besides singing with the group, the senior organizes concerts to benefit the community.
“We do it for the rewards and pleasure that we bring and that the singers have,” he said. “We do it for fun. It’s the pleasure of being involved in something mind growing and giving something back to the community that has given so much to us. As we grow older we appreciate how much the community has given to us.”
This Sunday, Oct. 7, the singers will group up to perform at the Fifty Plus Center. Ticket sales benefit Liberty House Child Abuse Assessment Center.
“We really believe in what they are doing in supporting abused children and families, “Hohnbaum said. “What they do in the community is very vital.”
